From the 18th to the 21st of March 2016 took place one of the major annual events of the world of wine in Spain: the Bacchus Awards.

This event, which is organized by the Spanish Association of wine connoisseurs (Unión Española de Catadores), is the only one which is recognized by the International Organisation of Vines and Wines (OIV), and represents one of the most independent and most open competitions taking place at the moment, also due to the high professional qualification of the more than 80 wine experts which form the Jury, starting with Masters of Wine and Masters Sommelier, through recognized wine professionals, to experienced specialized journalists.

In this edition more than 1,500 Wine tastings were presented from around the world, which were tasted in the course of 4 days, where there was a particularly high level this year, since 13 Great Golden Bacchus have been awarded (2015, there were 4), and almost 200 Golden Bacchus (2015, there were 178).

Among the awarded we can highlight the Don Px Convento Selección 1931 (Great Golden Bacchus), a “related” wine of the Don PX Convento Selección 1946 (100 Parker points), very exclusive, and of which only a few units are still for sale.

With the Golden Bacchus were, among others, also awarded: Pétalos Del Bierzo 2014, Deutz Brut Classic, Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes 2014, Carmelo Rodero Crianza 2013, Pago De Los Capellanes Crianza 2012 or the Viña Pomal Crianza 2013.

We would like to congratulate all of them.

The Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers (AEPEV, in its Spanish acronym) in its seventh edition of the Best Wines and Spirits of Spain, has awarded the 2015 Ochoa Rosado de Lágrima as the 2nd best rosé of Spain.

The AEPEV is an association of journalists, communication specialists, editors and writers of the wine industry and each year gives its awards recognizing the work of Spanish winemakers.

In this edition 786 brands have competed and after a two-round vote 153 wines and 36 spirits were distinguished.

The recognition for Ochoa Rosado de Lágrima is yet another in the long history of one of the most emblematic wines of Bodegas Ochoa.
As Adriana Ochoa, the winemaker of the winery, commented, one of the secrets to obtaining a high quality rosé lies in the saignée (from French bleeding), a very demanding procedure since 5kgs of grapes are needed to produce one bottle, but it certainly increases the quality of the wine.

From INVINIC we want to congratulate Bodegas Ochoa, and particularly Adriana and Javier, for bringing such exquisite wines, and encourage them to further develop their work with their characteristic passion.

For the 10th consecutive year the prestigious British magazine Decanter conferred its awards in the London International Wine Fair. This is one of the greatest contest in the world, because it involves a very large number of participants (around 14,362 wines from 52 countries), but can also be described as one of the most rigorous of its kind.

The evaluation process involves more than 200 judges and brings together 75 Master of Wine, 13 Master Sommeliers and other highly regarded experts from different areas in the wine industry: traders, critics, writers and, of course, sommeliers.

To asure the transparency of the competition, each wine is blind tasted and competes directly with wines from the same region and price range.

These high standards make it truly a pleasure and an honour for the different wine makers to receive any kind of award in this competition. This year, as in previous editions, Spanish wines have had a prominent place, but we want to make a special mention to one of our most demanded wines: Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles 2010.

This excelent, quality wine from the DO Priorat, that we have mentioned on previous occasions both on grounds of quality and careful production, has received a Silver Medal and a Regional Thropy.

From INVINIC we would like to extend our most sincere congratulations to winemakers Raúl Bobet and Sergi Ferrer-Salat and encourage everyone to try this excellent wine.
