The bodega Pago de los Capellanes is located in Pedrosa del Duero (Burgos), and belongs to the denomination of origin Ribera del Duero.
This bodega, owned by the family Rodero Villa, produces one of the most outstanding wines from this prestigious region, wherein the wine “Crianza” is particularly attractive due to its excellent value for money.

The vineyard Pago de los Capellanes is planted entirely with grape Tinta Fina (Tempranillo), the indigenous variety of this area, and consists of 35 parcels with a medium to low production, so as to achieve the highest quality.
The Bodega has modern installations, in order to control the smallest details of all aspects of the wine production. This ensures that the hard work is more than enough rewarded.

Pago de los Capellanes Roble 2010, good value for little money

At the very heart of Ribera del Duero it is located Pago de los Capellanes very close to Pedrosa de Duero, a town in Burgos where some of the best grapes of the Ribera are picked.

The Rodero-Villa marriage and their team have been working on small scale production (5.000 kg of grapes per hectare – under the 7.000 kg allowed by the Ribera del Duero Regulatory Board- ) in order to get a strict quality control of their wines. Their seeking of quality has granted them with one of the best sold wines in Spain.

Pago de los Capellanes Roble is made from Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Merlot (10%).
It offers a clean bright cherry colour. On the nose, it shows intense red fruit of the forest and floral aromas with dairy and vanilla hints due to their briefly ageing in wood (150 days). The palate is broad, elegant, lingering and velvety, without losing the liveliness of the great young Ribera wines.

A cheap wine at 9,35€ with an excellent quality.

Benromach Capellanes Picón Wood Finish, a whisky blended in wine barrels

We would like to talk today about an unusual whisky resulting from the collaboration between the Scottish distillery Benromach and the winery Pago de los Capellanes from the Spanish Ribera del Duero area.

Benromach is a distillery located in Speyside – Scotland- owned by Gordon & MacPhail. It is considered as one of the points of reference in malt whisky quality in the world.
On the other hand, Pago de los Capellanes is a winery located in the Ribera del Duero area. This area is widely known for its wine quality. Of the wines in the area, we can highlight the Picón among others which is a valuable wine coming from only 2 hectares ending in a town named Pico, hence its name.

The result of this collaboration is a unique whisky, the Benromach Capellanes Picón Wood Finish, aged during five years in Cherry and Bourbon casks and later on blended for 24 months in French oak casks already used in the ageing of the Picón wine – a complex and highly expressive wine.
Using this kind of cask provide this whisky with subtle wine and cane sweet hints over a ripe fruit background elegantly complementing the smoky and fresh mint hints of the Benromach.

The result is an elegant, fragrant, complex and fresh malt with sweet, smoky, balsamic, creamy and fruity notes.

It is worth mentioning that of all the special series of Benromach, the “Wood Finish” stands out due to the fact that they are whiskies aged during many months – even years – until achieving the best possible harmony between the whisky and the wooden cask.
