It\u2019s a firm that\u2019s over 200 years old, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.invinic.com\/en\/introducing-grower-champagne-and-why-you-should-care\/\">Champagne<\/a> has been drunk by royalty, film stars and the world\u2019s wealthy. You\u2019re in good company. And it all started in France during the reign of Louis XVI.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Story of Piper Heidsieck Brut<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1777<\/strong> &#8211; Heidsieck, a German from Westphalia, visits Champagne, and gains an appreciation for the wine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1785<\/strong> &#8211; \u2018Heidsieck &amp; Cie\u2019, the company that would become \u2018Piper Heidsieck\u2019 is founded in Reims. In this year, Marie Antoinette also samples Heidsieck\u2019s Champagne, and takes a liking to it. Royal patronage helps to secure the brand.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1793<\/strong> &#8211; Marie Antionette is guillotined in the French Revolution. The same fate does not befall her Champagne suppliers, but Moet &amp; Chandon find greater favour with the Corsican General who comes to lead France, Napoleon.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1800<\/strong> &#8211; Two of Heidsieck\u2019s nephews, Christian and Charles-Henri, start working in his business. Interestingly, different parts of the extended Heidsieck family found the Heidsieck and Monopole Champagne house, as well as the Christian Heidsieck house, although the latter is produced by the son of the Christian Heidsieck noted here.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1811<\/strong> &#8211; In a move of breathtaking cheek, or entrepreneurialism, Charles-Henri Heidsieck rides into Moscow. He is just ahead of Napoleon&#8217;s advancing army, and arrives with cases of Champagne as well as an order book. He intends to sell wine to whoever wins the battle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1815<\/strong> &#8211; Henri-Guillarme Piper, who is Christian\u2019s cousin, also gets involved in the family business. If you\u2019re confused about who\u2019s related to who at this point, you ain\u2019t seen nothing yet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1828<\/strong> &#8211; Heidsieck passes away. His nephews, Christian and Henri-Guillarme Piper, now run the show. Notably, Piper does the marketing. As a result, people start conflating the name \u2018Heidsieck\u2019 and \u2018Piper\u2019 together, as they order \u2018Piper\u2019s Heidsieck\u2019. Poor Christian.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1835<\/strong> &#8211; Christian Heidsieck dies as well. Even poorer Christian.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1838<\/strong> &#8211; Now comes the odd bit in the family tree where one of the branches melds into another branch. Henri-Guillarme Piper marries Christian Heidsieck\u2019s widow. That means the cousin of the nephew of the company\u2019s founder has just married the widow of the company founder\u2019s nephew. Phew! If Christian\u2019s body didn\u2019t spin in his grave, his head might have.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1839<\/strong> &#8211; \u2018Piper\u2019 is officially added to the \u2018Heidsieck\u2019 brand name.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1885<\/strong> &#8211; The famous jeweller Carl Faberg\u00e9 produces a bottle encrusted with lapis lazuli, diamonds, and white gold. It carries a special champagne to commemorate the company\u2019s first century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1933<\/strong> &#8211; A bottle of Piper Heidsieck appears in a Laurel and Hardy film, Sons of the Desert. The product placement is a PR coup that enshrines the brand\u2019s presence in Hollywood, and associates it with 20th Century luxury.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1944<\/strong> &#8211; The husband of the Piper-Heidsieck heir hides weapons for the Resistance in their champagne cellars. Just before being arrested, he escapes to North Africa, but is ultimately killed in battle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1953<\/strong> &#8211; Marilyn Monroe claimed to drink a glass of Piper Heidsieck each morning. When she did it, it was glamorous. When I did it, my family held an intervention.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1965<\/strong> &#8211; The company produced the biggest <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.invinic.com\/en\/making-champagne-and-why-you-should-leave-it-to-the-experts\/\">bottle of Champagne<\/a> ever, a Melchisedech. It carried the equivalent of 64 bottles, and was 1.82 metres tall. Its contents were from the 1959 vintage, and it celebrated the celebrate Rex Harrison\u2019s Oscar for Best Actor in \u2018My Fair Lady\u2019. I hope he had some alka seltzer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1976<\/strong> &#8211; Incredibly good conditions see Piper-Heidsieck produce its first \u2018Rare\u2019 vintage. The jeweller Van Cleef &amp; Arpels reproduce Faberg\u00e9\u2019s bottle from 1885, and it is valued at $1 million. Armed guards take it around the globe.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1988<\/strong> &#8211; The R\u00e9my Cointreau company acquires Piper Heidsieck.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2011<\/strong> &#8211; The brand is sold again to EPI, a group of French luxury brands, and the story continues\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #41aadf;\"><a style=\"color: #41aadf;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.invinic.com\/en\/piper-heidsieck-cuvee-brut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Buy\u00a0Piper Heidsieck Brut<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Champagne Itself:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Being of high quality, this is a more balanced style of champagne.
