Snow Queen Vodka is clean and classy. To appreciate that, you need to buy some truly awful vodka from a budget chain of shops, and by comparison, five times distilled, organic Snow Queen Vodka will feel as pure as Siberian snowflakes wafting in on an Arctic breeze. Being so refined, it’s also great for making cocktails. So one day, I set about seeing how a few classic cocktails would taste with Snow Queen Vodka as the base spirit.

A Snow Queen Vodka Bottle

My Day Drinking Snow Queen Vodka Cocktails:

12.01 p.m.

Screwdriver:

It wouldn’t do to drink before noon. It just wouldn’t do at all, as that sort of thing is frowned upon, you know, but one minute after noon is entirely respectable. I kicked the session off with a Screwdriver. It’s simple enough to make:

  • One part Snow Queen Vodka;
  • Two parts orange juice;
  • Slice of orange to garnish;
  • Twist orange peel over the glass to release some essential oils.

You just plop the ice into the glass. Then add the ingredients one by one, and stir. The result is actually rather yummy, with the vodka bringing out bitter elements from the oranges in a pleasant way for a confirmed sugar lover. The ice does a good job of stopping the vodka from becoming too bitter. That’s because cold temperatures kill off your ability to taste things, leaving only a satisfying warm glow from slurping down the Screwdriver. This stuff’s 40% you know.

13.10 pm

Mars Attacks:

After a Screwdriver, this cocktail seemed like a good idea. Note to self: never make important decisions while drinking. I read about it in a dusty old cocktail book I bought online, and as it is incredibly easy to make, I just had to give it a go. You’ll need:

  • A Mars bar;
  • One measure Snow Queen Vodka;
  • And a Microwave.

Chop up the Mars bar into tiny slivers. Put those little pieces of deliciousness into a microwaveable dish, and slosh over it a measure of Snow Queen Vodka. Microwave it for 30 seconds. Thoroughly stir it all together, so it’s no longer…gloopy…and leave it to cool down. The verdict: not altogether bad. The vodka is strong alcohol, and so has a mighty hint of eucalyptus about it – which is the defining flavour of high alcohol. Yet the taste of sweet, creamy, melted chocolate overtakes that after a few seconds. It won’t win any awards, but on reflection, it is actually rather fun.

14.03

Shrouded Martini:

After plumbing the depths with the last cocktail, I took things up a notch, and tried one of the cocktails which Snow Queen Vodka’s website actually recommends. To make this, you’ll need:

  • 6 Nocellara Olives, muddled (although I just used green, mid strength olives from a jar, as my local supermarket isn’t classy enough for Nocellara Olives);
  • 70 ml of Snow Queen Vodka;
  • 5 ml of Dry Vermouth;
  • 5 ml of freshly squeezed organic lemon juice. (If you use non-organic lemon juice, I won’t tell anyone. Between you and me, I didn’t either).

I had to sit down to drink this one. Of course, by now, standing up wasn’t much of an option, but this is a serious drink indeed. And a tasty one. It has some of the zestiness of a vodka sour, but with less lemon juice, your tongue won’t feel like you’ve licked a hydrochloric lollypop. The olives add a pleasing savouriness to the drink too, and the vermouth gives some interesting herby notes, like I’ve had my martini seasoned in an Italian restaurant.

More Cocktails!

Drinking these cocktails is not an approved way of getting your ‘5 a day’ of fruit and vegetables. However if you like the sound of these cocktails, you may want to read ‘Europe through its Cocktails’.

Grey Goose is one of the world’s premiere vodka brands. Produced in the Cognac region of France, this is premium stuff: The cheapest Grey Goose vodka you’re likely to find will still set you back considerably more than you’d pay for brands like Smirnoff and Absolut. As such, you’re gonna want to get your money’s worth and make the most of any bottle you might get.

One great way to get more out of a bottle of vodka is to make cocktails! Making your own vodka cocktails is a great way to save some cash, as the vodka lasts longer and you are not paying cocktail bar prices. All you need is a bottle of Grey Goose and a trip to the grocery store!

First things first, though: the vodka!

Which is the cheapest Grey Goose vodka?

When it comes to picking your vodka, you’ve got choices. Cellarmaster Francois Thibaut and his team produce a range of vodkas that get very high-end, very quickly. You’ve got flavoured variants like Grey Goose L’Orange, and specially engraved bottles and even large formats. The cheapest Grey Goose vodka is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the standard Grey Goose. We’ve based our cocktail recipes on this one, so it’s best to avoid the flavoured versions.

Now, it’s cocktail time. As even the cheapest Grey Goose vodka is on the pricey side, we’ve picked out some seriously budget ingredients for the cocktail recipes – feel free to trade up a little if you like!

3 of the cheapest Grey Goose vodka cocktails

Vodka is great for cocktails because it is incredibly flexible. Its neutral taste and clear appearance mean that you can mix and match different flavours and ingredients without the vodka itself overpowering anything. Grey Goose is high-quality stuff, too, so there will be no rough flavours or alcohol burn that you might find with cheaper vodkas. Here are three of our favourite Grey Goose vodka cocktails: Do try this at home!

1. Grey Goose Screwdriver

This one is as simple as it is delicious. Quick, easy and probably the cheapest Grey Goose vodka cocktail you’ll ever make!

You’ll need:

  • Grey Goose vodka

  • Orange juice

  • Ice

  • Orange slice

What you’ll need to do:

  • Take one part vodka to two parts orange juice

  • Mix together with ice in a highball glass

  • Garnish with orange slice, and serve

2. Grey Goose Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is a little trickier than the Screwdriver, but it’s a classic and is really worth knowing how to make.

You’ll need:

  • Grey Goose vodka

  • Lime juice

  • Ginger beer

  • Lime slice or wedge

  • Ice

What you’ll need to do:

  • Mix 4.5cl of vodka with 12cl of ginger beer in a highball glass with ice

  • Add 0.5cl of lime juice and stir gently

  • Garnish with lime slice, and serve

3. Grey Goose Vodka Martini

Last but not least, we’ve got the Grey Goose take on the classic vodka Martini. This is a favourite of James Bond’s, but thankfully the recipe is no secret!

You’ll need:

  • Grey Goose vodka

  • Dry vermouth

  • Ice

  • Olive or lemon, to garnish

What you’ll need to do:

  • Mix six parts vodka to one part vermouth with ice in a cocktail shaker

  • Strain into a Martini glass

  • Garnish with olive or lemon, and serve

What do you think of our Grey Goose vodka cocktails? Do you have any recipes of your own? Share them with us in the comments!

Beluga Gold is currently considered one of the best and most luxurious vodkas of the world. Due to the process of elaboration being long and complex this vodka has been released as a limited edition – each bottle being numbered.

Hand made in Russia with high quality malt it is fermented with its own natural enzymes without adding any synthetic additives. The water comes from natural springs in Siberia.  It is worth mentioning that it has been filtered in a slow fashion during 30 days.

Every detail has been taken good care of to the point of creating a top to hermetically close the bottle avoiding thus any possible alterations during its preserving or with the air contact.

On the bottle the sturgeon symbolizes the purity and shortage of this vodka. From the very moment of its launching it has been widely acclaimed up to the point of being sales leader in Russia.

U’luvka vodka is a remake of the authentic vodka of the 1606 Polish Royal house. Mark Holmes – its creator – was finally able to remake this vodka after finding some old archives on this spirit.

This super premium vodka has undergone a triple distillation process. It is made from rye and barley, pure natural water and natural yeast. The bottle is an amazing elegant design.

U’luvka is an exceptionally quality vodka. On the nose it is clean with slight flowery hints. It is creamy and slightly buttery on the palate with sweet, salty and spicy notes and a long finish.

A high quality nice vodka indeed.

There are not many vodka producers nowadays using potato as raw material to make their vodkas. Cereals are then used instead since the cost in production is a lot inferior. As a result of using a lower quality raw material we have neutral spirits with little flavor.

Willing to recover traditional methods, the most famous master distiller in Sweden and creator of the well known Absolut vodka –Börje Karlsson’s– decided after his retirement to take up an old recipe – not used any longer in his country – to make the best potato vodka in the world. For this reason, he chose the Cape Bjäre region known for producing the best new potato varieties in the whole country. After a careful selection, he chose seven different varieties to make his own new vodka.

The high quality in the raw material together with the pure water and an only distillation in column to keep all the spirit and the essence of the new potato make Karlsson’s Gold a Premium vodka very different from the ones we are used to taste.
Karlsson’s is an aromatic vodka in the nose where the floral and sweet hints highlight. It is warm, smooth, well balanced and long in the palate.

Following the instructions of the producer we have tasted Karlsoon’s on the rocks with a touch of black pepper and we can assure you that we have not lived such an experience for a long time. Vodka lovers must taste it to discover that what you are given at discos is not even fit to tie your shoelaces.

In spite of vodka being originally considered a tasteless, colorless, odorless and neutral beverage distilled out of potato or cereals, it is nowadays revolutionizing the Spanish market with spectacular increases in sales. It is precisely premium vodkas like Grey Goose, Citadelle 6C, Karlsson’s, Beluga, Roberto Cavalli or Belvedere the responsible ones of this change.
It seems we are facing a phenomenon similar to gin a few years ago. We are starting to see a great new variety of vodkas.

This increase in vodka consumption might be due to several reasons among which we would like to highlight the main ones:

First of all, the increase in premium vodkas sales might be due to a change in the consumption habits. There is a tendency towards drinking less quantity but better quality.

In second place, vodka is a versatile beverage. It can be mixed with many other beverages due to its neutral taste being thus extremely helpful for barmen.

Lastly, it is also worth mentioning its value for money since there are the production costs such as barrels or the years to be kept before selling it like when rum or whiskey are produced. This is one of the reasons why some vodka brands invest a lot more in their marketing campaigns.

As a conclusion, we might dare to confirm that vodka is going to be the new trendy distillate in the following years.

Remember that you can find a great variety of premium vodkas at INVINIC.

The history of vodka begins in the 9th century when two Russians wanted to import a mead-based spirit from Arabia into Russia. It was during its transportation that the spirit fell and due to the freezing temperatures, was of no use any more. However, such was their determination that far from giving up they decided to try a new type of distillation by freezing and skimming the mead to extract what later became to be known as “the water of life”.  Hence its etymological origin, “voda” being a Slavic word meaning “water”.

The Surprising Medical Origin of Vodka

This water of life began to be used at the very beginning only for medicinal purposes. however it did not take very long before people began discovering a new potential for the magical water.

By 1700s vodka was already playing an important role in Russia and its history. Vodka had become such a demanded product that sometimes it was produced without controls and without heed to public health concerns. There were cases of people going blind from.

The History of Vodka Takes a Scientific Turn

Something had to be done. The Russian Government decided that a formula to create a standard in the production of vodka was necessary. This task was assigned to Dmitri Mendeleev, the famous Russian scientist and father of the periodic table. For ten years, Mendeleev thought how to create a vodka with the desired psychological effects and few negative side effects. In the process, he discovered that vodka could not be measured by volume, but by weight. This discovery helped him to find the perfect balance: 1 vodka spirit molecule to 3 purified water molecules. He also found out that charcoal filtration was very useful for removing impurities without eliminating its smooth grain taste.

Mendelev Makes Vodka History With his new Standard

Once the 40% standard of the formula was discovered, it was the Russian Government’s responsibility to enforce the new law so that corrupt producers were removed. Vodka became a premium spirit.

The Early 20th Century Shakes Up Vodka History

Due to the Russian Revolution, one of the most important vodka distillers, the Smirnoff family, fled Russia. The drink started being produced in Turkey and Poland. During the Great Depression, it also spread to America, and despite some difficulties being established in these new markets, it gradually took off outside Russia.

American culture also influenced spirit consumption a great deal. Prohibition (1920 – 1933) saw hard liquor being produced in secret with dubious production methods that greatly affected flavours. The addition of mixers, herbs, spices, garnishes, sugars and other drinks hid the foul taste of bootleg liquor. Ironically, an attempt to snuff out alcohol consumption led to the creation of one of its most successful incarnations – the modern cocktail.

A Whistlestop History of Vodka Cocktails:

  • 1921: The first Bloody Mary.
  • 1934: The first Cosmopolitan recipe is published.
  • 1938: The first recorded ‘Screwdriver’.
  • 1941: The Moscow Mule is invented.
  • 1952: The Harvey Wallbanger.
  • 1962: ‘White Russian’ enters the Oxford English Dictionary.
